Organizing in a small space means you have to get creative! Here’s some simple solutions I used to create extra storage. They will be especially helpful for those of you living in tiny spaces!
Some staples for organizing that are super versatile with a little creativity are hanging shoe organizers, paper organizers (that you can attach to your cabinet with command hooks) or wall-mounted coat rack organizers. And don’t forget to hit up your local thrift store…so many of these items I was able to find there.
All of these items are under $20 (most featured are under $10 and $5!) and they make a huge impact.
Hi Kathryn, another great video! We are moving to a smaller house, downsizing, and my walk-in closet is 9X10! That’s great, but I tend to collect junk, and I could foresee filling the closet with junk, clothes we don’t wear, etc, etc. This video gives me some better ideas for organizing on a small budget, and preparing to use the room wisely! I’m looking forward to using these ideas when I set up my closet! (When I first saw the closet with my husband, I asked him where he was going to put his clothes!LOL). Thanks for this and all your videos, and also I wanted to say I appreciate the quick to the point videos! I can commit to a few minutes, and I am happy to save time and learn! And could you share some quick tips on moving? Thanks!
Hi Kathryn,
I have lived in my house, with hubby and 2 kids for 19 years. It feels like the house is getting smaller all the time as the kids grow. My son has special needs and we lose space to huge equipment all the time. I’m loving your tips to maximise space. Thank you for all your sharing. I only wish we had dollar tree in Australia.
Love your blog and YouTube channel! I live in an old Victorian home built circa 1875 and there are no closets! I have a closet in the master bedroom that is about 5′ wide and not very deep so I struggle with maximizing that space.
The other 2 bedrooms have no closets. My tween son doesn’t have many clothes that require hanging but I so wish there was a closet to organize his toys. The “dump everything in the toy box” method is not working! His room is very small so I need to maximize vertical space. He has a loft bed so we can use the space underneath but I still think we could use the space better.
Thoughts?
Hey Kathryn…
You are doing a awesome job… I watch each n every video of yours.. Looking forward for more…
I live in an apartment where there is no entry closet where we can keep our coats and shoes. I really miss them as I had it in my previous apartment. I kept my shoe rack in little extra space in my laundry room and also using a over the door shoe pocket rack. we gotto walk all over the house to laundry room with those shoes or carry them there ..which I don’t like… The main concern for me is when I have visitors, I wish I had a shoe closet at my entryway… I live in Colorado, cold place… If you could suggest me on this it would be really great…. Thank you in advance.
hi i am really enjoying your videos i am just thinking about revamping our small kitchen and looking for decor ideas.i want to try shabby chic so any tips will be really welcomed
I am downsizing my two young sons and I from a three bedroom house to a very small two bedroom duplex. We will have only one small walk-in closet for all of our clothes. I am curious how easy is it to put up wire shelving to maximize space? The closet has two sides to it, with an entry and separate exit door from the two bedrooms. It has a very small hallway to walk through it. It has one shelf on each side above each of the hanging rods. I am thinking to add 2 wire shelves I found for $1.99 each from the Goodwill, these will go under each side the boys will use about a shirt length under the rods. Then I will have to find what will work best for their shoes. Do you have any suggestions for shoe storage or upper storage that would work for tight places?
Have you seen this video? I feature my dad’s small closet and how I maximized space up top. Good luck with your move! xo, K https://youtu.be/QzI6j8y7yic
